I found these parts on my workshop floor a few of weeks ago. At first, I thought that a strut mount bearing assembly had failed and these were the remnants.

I haven’t changed out struts recently so it wasn’t from a reassembly gone wrong.
I haven’t had any cars except our own in the workshop because I haven’t fully set up yet, so they must have come from one of our cars.
But neither of our cars were showing signs of something this catastrophic happening.
So where are they from? I was getting a little paranoid. I have seen these break and not show signs straight away, so that could be the answer.
I pulled my car in, jacked it up and checked it as best I could without disassembling. I could mostly see the mounts and they looked intact, but not being able to see them fully I was left with an element of doubt.
A week or two went by and I still didn’t have an answer, these parts were on my bench as a constant reminder that something was going on that I couldn’t answer.
The next step was to strip the car down and be absolutely positive.
But I was busy doing some repairs around the house and workshop so it would have to wait.
One morning while setting up my tools for some decking I wheeled my makeshift compound saw table into the workshop and again I saw more of these parts on the driveway.
Unbelievably after all my worrying I noticed two of the castor wheels that were on my saw table were disintegrating and shedding on the floor. That was my plastic puzzle.
They look identical to a strut mount bearing assembly and they certainly fooled me!
